Any wedding photographers?
Filed Under Photo News | Leave a Comment
I also recieved this e-mail today, probably only of interest to those of you who are interested in, or involved in, wedding photography.
“I am writing to let you know of a new Photography Forum I have started to help everybody from the seasoned Professional to the Amateur first picking up a camera. Covering everything from weddings to Landscapes and everything in between.
I have started a forum on my website at www.wedding-photography.org . It’s quite basic at the moment but I feel it has all the necessary sections to help most photographers. There is a suggestions page that hopefully will let me know what people want.
I started my career as have many other “pro” photographers I know by taking portraits and weddings as favours for friends. I then went to college and gained the qualifications I needed.
I have now been a professional photographer for 8 years and I remember first starting on my journey into photography. I had loads of questions but nobody to ask them. I read as much as I could but most of the magazines used to cover the same topics over and over again.
I was lucky I managed to assist a professional photographer for a couple of years before I “Took the Plunge”. It’s the best move I have ever made.
There is no registration fee or monthly subscription I am doing this purely because business has given me and my family so much that I thought it was time to put something back in. Sounds a bit corny but it’s the truth.
I am trying to get as many “like minded people” into the forum so we can share our knowledge and experiences and hopefully all improve.
Please have a look at the forum and maybe, if you like it recommend it to your colleagues. I hope it is of help.

Looks like I’m on some e-mail lists.

K.P. is seeking the best venues to inform artists and artisans across California about this unique opportunity for exposure and naturally we thought of your organization. Please email me back with further information and instructions.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

I know nothing about the people behind this book project. I would suggest doing a little research before submitting your photos. But, if you want your work published, this may be a good opportunity.

New Site Almost Completed!
Filed Under Club News, Member News | Leave a Comment
The new HCC site is almost completed. I still need some input from the members though.
First, please look at the 2003 Club Gallery. I want all members to vote on whether they prefer the club galleries to present pictures on a white or black background (with opposite color text). Also, vote on what sort of border style you prefer for the club galleries. You can see examples of the various border styles on the sample individual pages 1 and 2.
Second, anyone who has won an award in 2004/05 and would like to display their work on the club’s site as an award winner, please get your digital files to me. If you don’t have access to a scanner, please let me know. I can scan your work or another club member can. I know the club has many award winners, so don’t be shy about showing them off!
Third, anyone who can find out about awards the HCC has recieved over the years, please contact me. I’m sure the club has won awards and I’d like to list those honors on the site.
Fourth, I would like to have a listing of all the materials available in the members’ library so that it can be posted on the site as a reference.
Of less urgency….
If you want an e-mail address, you have two choices. You can use our Hotmail address (hollistercameraclub@…), which would be a communal address, or you can get your own password-protected e-mail through hollistercameraclub.com. Neither one is complicated to set up. (This is for active members only.)
If you want to post on this blog, a quick tutorial can be arranged. Posting here is as simple as writing an e-mail, once you know where to go. You will get your own seperate login and password so that you can post under your own name. All members are encouraged to post photo news, personal photo stories, links of interest or anything that the other club members may enjoy discovering.
Any member who has a website and would like to trade banners/links with the Hollister Camera Club site, please contact me. If you know of any site that you think we should trade links/banners with, please let me know.
Any active member can also have their own personal gallery on the site. Take a look at the sample individual pages 1 and 2, above, for an idea of how your gallery might look. Please submit a short bio, listing of awards won and any number of digital pictures. Any size or format is acceptable. The pictures will be resized in Photoshop, watermarked (as seen on the Club Gallery pages, above) and saved as high-quality JPEGs. If you need scans of any type of film/negative up to 4×5, please contact me (dust can be retouched but no cropping or other manipulation is offered). Prints up to 8×10 can also be scanned. An Epson Perfection 4870 will be used for the scanning. Also, please let me know how you want your name appearing on the page title.
If anyone knows of any great photo-related links that we should have on the site, let me know or post them here!
And finally, don’t forget to subscribe to the blog so that you can get any new posts announced directly to your e-mail.
I think that’s it for now, but it’s a lot. I need help completing this site and making it a resource for active members and the curioius bystander.

Smithsonian Photo Column
Filed Under Photo News | Leave a Comment
The Smithsonian has a fairly new monthly column in their magazine. Each month they feature an in-depth story about an iconic shot or photographer (or both). It’s a great read for photo history buffs or for those who like to know “the rest of the story.” You can find their latest article online under the Indelible Images column.

This is always a great contest and it’s worth buying the issue that features the winners every year.
